The example of an analog clock is often used to introduce children to the concept of fractions, as a clock face is very clearly divided up into twelve equal parts. The clock acts as a visual representation of what phrases such as ‘quarter to’ and ‘half past’ mean, and helps children to apply the concepts of quarters and halves to other situations or math questions.
